October’s Meeting

Meet
Thanks to Mary Ann for taking minutes.

Nine Attendees.

Call to order.
Frank explained how minutes are now posted on website with links on agenda.  Minutes approved.  Agenda has links to sample ballots.

Treasurer’s report:  Knut Sauer is away.  Frank said we should have enough to cover a pre election mailing. Really need folks to donate to JWDC. All funds spent on communications. Checks can be mailed to PO Box 368 Au Sable Forks,NY 12912 or click on the donate button on jaydems.com website.

Notes from ECDC 9/26/23 meeting.
1) ECDC received $5 k donation from Verizon. We talked about source and that funds are not for supporting candidates but for “housekeeping”. Only 3 counties received this money.
2) importance of being in compliance with election law. Republicans took Clinton County to court for not meeting >25% of delegates designated by petitions. CCDC won case on appeal.  But better to be in compliance.
3). 10/10 Pints & Politics at 6pm at Ray Brook Brew House.

Town of Wilmington updates:
October 17, 6:30 to 8:30 pm Candidate Forum at Wilmington Fire House, Haselton Road. This is sponsored by Adirondack Daily Enterprise and Lake Placid News

We are sending out postcard supporting Tim Follos, Laura Hooker and Randy Winch to Wilmington Dems those with no party affiliations and Republican women.  (This was a consensus decision).

Town of Jay updates:
It’s been decided to not hold a candidate forum since there are no contested local elections except for County Clerk and Supreme Court Judge. Frank seeing about Zoom meeting with Carl Falotico.
We are sending postcards to Jay Dems, blanks and Republican women to remind about voting and who is on ballot.  Using our own not ECDC PC.  Less to read. Makes an impact.

Lively discussion on two ballot proposals.  The first is Removal of Small City School Districts from Special Constitutional Debt Limitation. This essentially allows a limit from 5% of assessed property to 10% as is allowed in larger cities.  The second is to Extend Sewage Project Debt Exclusion from Debt Limit. This would be another ten year extension allowing counties, cities towns and villages to remove from their constitutional debt limits debt for construction of sewage facilities.
