BoE moves from Elizabethtown County offices to the Public Safety Building in Lewis

New election machines for November election – same ballots, same electronic poll book process. Setup and shutdown should be easier.

Consider becoming an election inspector, it’s a great way to serve your community and reconnect with neighbors. Training for Election Inspectors October 2-6. Call BoE to sign up for a slot 518-873-3474 if interested.

Andrea Baer (Chesterfield town council candidate in 2021 and JWDC guest) started work as the Democratic BoE Technician.

Legislation to mandate even-year elections for non-judicial candidates, has passed but hasn’t yet been delivered to the governor for her signature. Impacts council members, supervisors, clerks, and superintendents. NYC is exempt. Good discussion about the pros and cons of this confusing topic.

Carl Falotico (D), supreme court justice candidate for our district, spoke to us. He attended the Black Brook Labor Day event and is interested in attending one of our meetings.

September 17, 4pm Wilmington Town Hall event at Santa’s Workshop. It features Town Council candidates Laura Dreissigacker Hooker (I) and Randy Winch (I), and Tim Follos (D), Town Supervisor candidate. Olivia Dwyer (D) Town of Jay Town Council candidate, may attend also.

Town of Wilmington update. Short term rentals and other topics sowing division

Town of Jay update. Supervisor Stanley reported on budgeting process, assessment, ambulance funding, FEMA projects, Highway Department updates (Chris Garrow back as supervisor and Chris Sorrell Deputy Supervisor, Paul Mintz Water and Sewer Department, but looking to hire 2 to take over sewer and water for 3 districts). Another new Highway Department hire is also in place.

Shannon Stanley is now the AVCS School Board President. They meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6pm. Agendas are published in the Jay News.

Discussion on guests to invite to future meetings

The Jay Candidate Forum is planned for mid-October, but so far two of three candidates haven’t responded. Could be a hybrid in-person and Zoom meeting.

Next JWDC meeting is proposed to be on October 9 (Indigenous Peoples’ Day)
