Good Zoom turnout for the March meeting, I joined after the Commissioner’s report so I don’t have that status.
Maggie discussed the redistricting impact including the court challenge. So far, the biggest effect is that Essex County will be divided into two Assembly district. All except North Elba, Keene, Jay and Wilmington will remain in the 114th (represented by Matt Simpson). The exceptions, including us, will be in the 115th, (represented by Billy Jones). Fort Drum will no longer be in the 21st Congressional District, but overall that district (represented by Stefanik) appears to remain solid red.
If the redistricting survives court challenges and appeals, then the ECDC will gain two State Committee Delegates, to represent the added towns in the 115th.
The Mission Statement Committee developed a draft for review: The Essex County Democratic Committee works to improve the everyday lives of Essex County families by advocating policies that achieve responsible and sustainable economic growth, protect our environment and public health. We support diversity, ethical behavior, and democracy.
Governor primary: Apparently there will be one, involving Hochul and Williams. Cuomo may petition to run as an independent.
