Amy Quinn for Essex County Judge

Amy Quinn

Dear friends and neighbors of Essex County,

It is with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility that I announce my candidacy for the important position of ESSEX COUNTY JUDGE. I am seeking your support in this vital election for a 10-year term in this position which will be elected by the voters in all 18 towns of Essex County in November 2024.

For the past 18 plus years of my 28 year legal career, I have had the honor of working as the staff attorney in the chambers of Judge Richard Meyer at the courthouse in Elizabethtown. With my experience as Judge Meyer’s legal right hand, I am confident that I am ready for the workload and responsibilities of this role on Day One, without any on-the-job training.

At the end of February, I will begin the petitioning process to add my name to the ballot for this fall’s election.

The importance of qualified judges committed to the Constitution, democracy, and the rule of law cannot be overstated. Whether or not you find yourself in a courtroom, your Essex County neighbors, co-workers, and loved ones are involved in matters that come before the court daily. How these matters are handled directly impacts each one of us and a trustworthy, hard-working and impartial judge is vital to the well-being of a community.

👩‍⚖️ The main responsibilities of this full-time position are as follows:

1️⃣ To preside over family court, addressing matters of custody, visitation, child support, child abuse, child neglect, and juvenile delinquencies. These Family Court cases account for over 70% of the matters which come before the Essex County Judge.

2️⃣ To preside over surrogate’s court, settling property affairs of deceased members through the administration of wills, trusts, and small estates, and resolving associated disputes, as well as all adoptions and guardianship proceedings,

3️⃣ To preside over superior criminal court matters, handling felonies such as serious assaults, domestic violence, sexual assault, drug sales, and robberies.

I have a deep level of hands-on legal experience in each and every one of these different areas of responsibility and beyond, and have spent years  regularly drafting legal decisions, evaluating arguments and evidence for legal sufficiency, and conducting settlement conferences with counsel in advance of trial, as well as representing the people of Essex County in our courtrooms.

I am a career-long public servant and involved community volunteer and for me, there is no higher calling than to use my passion and experience to serve as your next Essex County Judge. I look forward to connecting with you and your neighbors to earn your support. I hope that you will consider giving me your vote!

Thank you!
